life updates

February 8, 2009 | 2:06 am | peterjenning
  • booked a prop bet versus xyven for most hands played. excited to get some good volume in for once. my most hands played ever in a month was 68k in august.
  • finally got a prom date. it was sorta weird right after the dismissal bell rang she snap-called me and asked me if i wanted to go to prom. who does that?
  • got fucked on midterms, especially anatomy. pretty likely i failed! i guess that’s standard when you have a fat bulldyke retard excuse for a teacher. just hope it wont fuck me over with colleges and mid-year reports.
  • i am slowly warming to the idea of going to rutgers
  • had to explain to my mom why there were two dudes kissing on my computer screen (it was milk, i swear ok)

not gettin gwap and tableratings

December 8, 2008 | 12:21 am | peterjenning

this challenge isn’t worth my sanity. i basically get shit on whenever i 8-table 6max — i wouldnt be surprised if im down like 3 buyins from turn/river non-showdown play alone. i will continue to play full ring though because i think my strategy will pretty much decimate the games for like 3bb/100 not including fpps.

tableratings recently opened for stars and although it closed after like 2 days, i made some observations:

  • shortstackers are taking a fuckton of money out of the game. i looked up all the big ssnl shortstackers at 6max and fr and they are taking probably 30k out of the games not including fpps
  • people should probably play more fr so they dont turn into absolute spewtards (nick) because a lot of the top winners play both
  • paradox of volume: gregy makes the most amount of money (think it was like 47k) of all 200 6max players, but he has played 2.5x the hands as the 2nd highest winner (43k)
  • nanonoko is the illest.

i guess i will return to playing more nl200 or 400 and the peterjenning staple of nl1k.

gettin gwap

December 3, 2008 | 3:23 pm | peterjenning

i am currently in the middle of a challenge to myself to make 10k at nl100 this month. there a couple of reasons i am trying to do this. for one, i just want to print some stress free money for myself. i have some sort of mental block at nl200 and even though i have 250 buyins for it, it sucks to be down 25 buyins over a 125k hand sample at 1/2. completing this challenge will reassure that i am a winner at ssnl!

another reason im doing this is to teach myself mega-tabling full ring, since a lot of the top winners in msnl play both full ring and 6max. i think it’s important to develop this skill set early, so i don’t go spewing at 3/6 fr. i’m experimenting with a couple weird strats so it’ll be interesting to see my fr winrate after its all done.

finally, the value of fpps are just too much to pass up. i estimate that i’ll generate around 2k in fpps alone, which is like a sick rakeback %. maybe if i hit the 10k quickly i’ll make a run at the 300k vpp milestone!

quick review: wendy’s gourmet mushroom swissburger

November 30, 2008 | 8:54 pm | peterjenning

A 1/4 lb.* of fresh, hot ‘n juicy beef, topped with natural Swiss cheese, sautéed Portabella mushroom blend, hickory smoked bacon, a savory peppercorn sauce, crisp lettuce and red, ripe tomato. Available for a limited time only, so get to Wendy’s and let your inner gourmet out!

i did not enjoy eating this for many reasons let me share them with you the reader

pros: the bacon (lala im pdk-ing out)

cons: fake portabella mushrooms. cheese with no flavor. unrecognizable extra-salty sauce

my poker story

November 19, 2008 | 11:49 pm | peterjenning

in 2004, i was introduced to the livingwithstyle forums from a banner ad on SA. its gimmick was that they would give out free stuff for posting on their forums. being your standard busto teenager, i started post whoring trying to grind out ten bucks on paypal. it was here where i was first introduced to poker.

somebody decided to start running games on pokerroom for style points and instantly, i was hooked. i also started doing some immature degen shit like creating multiple party accounts for a free $50, or going to barnes and noble and ripping out all these cards out of cardplayer that gave a free $10 on pokerroom for making a new account.

i met microwinder a couple months later, and that was my first in depth glimpse at actual poker strategy. he used to sweat me in sngs and i would tell him all my holecards — little did i know that he was playing the same sit and gos and using that to my disadvantage. eventually, he just fell of the internet and i haven’t seen him since. for the next 15 months, i pretty much stagnated on party as rippeterjenn/GenghisChi/professorz00m, slowly making it towards a three digit roll.

in between, i was slowly moving minuscule amounts money off party onto stars(peterjenning) and ftp. i played the .02/.04 hu limit games on stars and 5 dollar hu sngs on ftp. when the uigea finally passed, i ended up moving it all towards ftp and decided to become a “hu sng specialist.” up until january 2007, i played solely heads up sngs. i was very pride oriented — i’d take screencaps of my tournament results and bankroll and spam the jpgs on irc. it was around this time that i started #badbeats, a spinoff of #poker to mainly talk about beats and get rid of that shit from #poker.

the first people in #badbeats were nachos, ec10 and pumpy (back when he used to play poker). ec10 suggested that i started playing tournaments because that was where all the money was at. i was pretty much just drifting in the hu sngs, never making a huge splash, so i decided to make a change. it was at this point where i ran like god, winning 2 10/180s, 1 20/180 (thanks nachos!), a $8 freezeout, and an $11 turbo. my bankroll skyrocketed to around 8k. this was the start of the worst eight months of my life as a poker player aka being a professional tournament player.

i was staked by nachos originally for all the sunday tournaments and stuff like ftops. on june 17, 2007, it appeared my life was going to change. six months into a tournament career, i made it to the final table of the sunday million, having 35% of myself. on that fateful hand, wandsworth shoved utg and i called for the rest of my stack with KK in mp. everyone folded, and wandsworth had A3o. if i doubled, i would have had a top three stack. instead, an ace came off on the river and i busted in eighth for 12.4k.

afterwards, i lost the taste for tournaments. in october, i moved to no limit cash games and haven’t looked back. i have played over 400k hands this year on stars and have won over 42k this year from ssnl and msnl.
